WA home solar
battery rebate

The solar battery rebate for WA residents can be claimed in addition to the federal battery rebate. Synergy and Horizon customers can claim a total of $5,000 and $7,500 in battery rebates.
The WA government home battery incentive, officially called the WA Residential Battery Scheme is designed to work in tandem with the federal government’s solar battery rebate.
The solar battery rebate for WA is expected to last until 2027, while the national rebate is expected to last until 2030.

The combination of the federal storage incentive and the WA home battery rebate significantly reduces the upfront cost of installing a home battery unit. The state subsidy can be used for new panel and battery systems or adding a new battery to an existing system.
In addition to the cost saving, WA residents can also apply for a no-interest loan up to the value of $10,000.
We explain how much you can save and how you can apply for the solar battery rebate in WA.
How the WA home battery rebate works
The WA Residential Battery Scheme will see up to 100,000 households benefit from a rebate for the installation of new solar batteries. The state-based incentive can be received in addition to the federal solar panel rebate and the federal battery rebate.
The WA rebate applies to the first 10 kWh of battery storage. Residents can install a larger battery and still receive the maximum rebate.

How much you can save with the WA battery rebate
The value of the WA battery rebate varies according to electricity distributors. Synergy customers can receive up to $1,300 off the cost of a new battery, while Horizon customers can receive up to $3,800.
| Distributor | Rebate per kWh | Maximum rebate |
|---|---|---|
| Synergy | $130 | $1,300 |
| Horizon | $380 | $3,800 |
The value of the rebate varies according to the size of the battery. The table below shows the combined savings of when both the WA battery rebate and national battery rebate are combined:
Prices with the WA home battery rebate
The WA home battery rebate works in unison with the federal battery rebate. When coupled together, households and businesses can save thousands off the cost of new solar batteries.
| Details | Synergy customers | Horizon customers |
|---|---|---|
| 10 kWh battery cost | $12,260 | $12,260 |
| WA battery rebate | ($1,300) | ($3,800) |
| Federal battery rebate | ($3,360) | ($3,360) |
| Battery cost after rebates | $7,600 | $5,100 |
The combined effect of the federal and WA battery rebates means that Horizon customers can save up to $7,500 off the cost of a new battery and Synergy customers up to $5,000.
In addition to these two incentives, the solar panel rebate for WA residents is available on the purchase of new solar panels.
Zero interest battery loans
The WA Residential Battery Scheme also offers eligible residents interest-free loans up to the value of $10,000. The loans are payable over a 10-year period and will be means tested. Only households whose combined income is less than $210,000 can access the loans.
Synergy distribution zone
The Synergy distribution zone in WA covers the populous south-west portion of the state from Perth down to Albany, out to Kalgoorlie and up as far north as Kalbarri.

Horizon distribution zone
The Horizon distribution zone covers the remainder of the state as depicted in the map below:
Eligibility for the WA government battery rebate
The WA government battery rebate is only available for batteries installed after July 1 2025. The battery incentive is available to all WA residents, provided they meet the following criteria and installation requirements:
- Have an electricity account with either Synergy or Horizon
- Install a battery at a WA residential address
- Install an approved battery
- Select an approved solar retailer
- Configure battery to participate in a VPP
Approved batteries and installers
To receive the Western Australian government battery incentive, applicants must install a unit that appears on the Clean Energy Council's approved battery list.
In addition, the battery must be installed by an accredited battery scheme installer.
Participating in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)
To receive the WA battery rebate, residents must participate in a VPP. Participating in a VPP involves sending stored renewable energy to the grid in times of peak demand. In return, battery owners will receive a credit for every kWh of energy they send.
Savings with the WA solar battery rebate
The WA home battery rebate is set to deliver incredible savings for residents and firmly tip the economic scales in favour of installing a new solar system with a battery.
We’ve run some numbers on projected savings and payback figures for an 8kW system with a Tesla Powerwall 3 battery in Perth (Synergy zone). Calculations are based on an average electricity bill of $750 per quarter.
| Result | With no battery rebates | With combined battery rebates |
|---|---|---|
| First year savings | $2,861 | $2,861 |
| Payback Period | 8.6 years | 6.9 years |
| Total rebates | $2,211 | $7,211 |
| Total system cost (including rebates) | $24,693 | $19,693 |
| Return on investment | 11.60% | 14.50% |
| New average bill | $34.72 | $34.72 |
Our analysis shows that the an 8kW solar system with the combined battery rebates can payback in 6.9 years and deliver savings of over $2,861 per year. The cost of the Tesla Powerwall 3 comes down to $12,045 with the rebates.
If no battery rebates were applied, the payback period would sit at 8.6 years and the system would cost an extra $5,000.
